A deep chronology of the life of the patriot and journalist Juan Gualberto Gómez from Matanzas has just arrived in my hands, right in the year where the whole Cuba remembers him for the 160th anniversary of his birth.
The War of 10 years was over. Just a few small, isolated departures stubbornly resisted with patriotic anger the Hispanic lunges. Cubans, as Martí would say once, were not defeated, they had just let the sword down, hopeless mostly by fatigue and lack of resources that the wore down the patriotism of a bourgeoisie no longer able to lead the quest.
In the lives of these two great heroes of the Fatherland are coincidences that call the attention and help to reaffirm the epithet of the one from Matanzas as the black brother of the Apostle.

Vellocino is a secluded place of the Matanzas´s geography , located five miles and a half northwest of the Juan Gualberto Gómez´s town, in Union de Reyes´s municipallity . It is surrounded by large sugarcane plantations and joined such a village with a dusty dirt road, almost always in shabby conditions.
In 1953 the Cuban nation was involved in perhaps the most dismal time since its advent as a republic in 1902. Government was the personal fiefdom of a dictator, boosted to power by the United States. This, instead, were not only the domain hiding behind the presidential chair, they had also become the economic master of country which they exploited putting it at the brink of an economic catastrophe.
