Offer a severe criminal response to those antisocial behaviors that threaten the health of the people and the priorities of the country, was the commitment ratified by the main directors of the People’s Court system in Matanzas at the opening appointment of the Judicial Year 2021, held in the headquarters of the provincial body, this time by videoconference due to the complex situation in the epidemiological field.
Chaired by the head of the highest judicial instance in the province Damaris Sanabria Padrón, the virtual work session, developed with the established sanitary protocol, was attended by the Governing Council of the institution, judges and presidents of the Municipal Courts.
Maintain the vitality of the justice system, even in the midst of covid-19, and maintain rigor in the prosecution of crimes related to violations of health protocols, hoarding and illicit economic activities of products necessary for the population, as well as those related to the so called «coleros», resellers and hoarders, will be essential objectives of the new ordinary period of action of the Matanzas courts, according to Sanabria Padrón.
The opening of the Judicial Year was done by videoconference.
The appointment was conducive to reviewing the judicial work in the province during the previous year, highlighting the challenges of the stage that is beginning and emphasizing the importance of achieving an effective administration of justice, in tune with the needs of the citizens.
With regard to 2020, a year of enormous obstacles and difficulties, the important role of judicial bodies was highlighted in sanctioning individuals who tried to profit from and take illicit advantages from the limitations and needs that, as a consequence of the pandemic, and aggravated with the US economic and commercial blockade, the Cuban people still suffer.
Although due to the limited autochthonous transmission phase in which Matanzas finds itself, the opening act of the judicial year could not be conceived with the usual solemn ceremony, the event becomes an essential practice for the People’s Court that contributes to the strengthening of the institutionality and reinforces the transparency and visibility of the Cuban judicial system.
