Making the sugar plan as efficient as possible and fulfilling the 88 thousand tons is an imperative for the western province of Matanzas, said Salvador Valdés Mesa, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba.
The Vice President of the Republic of Cuba reflected on the importance of meeting the agreed figures for sweet grain in times of rising prices in the international market, an opportunity that should be taken advantage of, he urged.
During his work visit to Matanzas, Valdés Mesa exchanged with managers and employees of the Jesús Rabí plants, from Calimete; México, from Colón, and Mario Muñoz, from Los Arabos, on the need not to waste cachaça as a by-product to fertilize soils and as a component for animal feed.
He showed special interest in knowing how the sugarcane yields, the quality of the raw material, fundamental aspects in the industrial process, and insisted on the idea that old cane should not be accepted. He referred to the relevance of satisfying the anticipated amounts of alcohols, honey and energy to the National Electric System, contributions that should not be missed, due to their importance at the present time.
“The sugar production units cannot sustain themselves only on cane, they have to advance in the diversification of animal feed productions, in the development of construction materials, in the provision of various services, thereby reducing costs production ”, he warned.
As part of his tour, Valdés Mesa visited the Gispert Basic Cooperative Production Unit (UBPC), in the municipality of Colón, a reference production base for having work systems that have brought him much benefit.
Appreciating the excellent results of the UBPC, the Cuban Vice President stated that agriculture has to take the work experiences of this center, due to its efficiency, productivity and organization. During the government visit last November, President Miguel Díaz-Canel said that Gispert is almost the UBPC that we need, where there is a link between man and the area, self-consumption, adequate production and agricultural culture.
“There the plantations are beautiful, there everything is neat, clean. This is how we have to have things. And I believe that even with the promotion that they have in new areas, the yields, contributions and therefore the salary of the workers of that cooperative will also continue to rise there ”.
Accompanied by Liván Izquierdo Alonso, first secretary of the Party, and Mario Sabines Lorenzo, Governor, Valdés Mesa also verified the operation of a processing center in areas of central Mexico. According to him, the unit stands out for the production of sugarcane scraping, in the extraction of sesame oil and in the offer of numerous dishes prepared with yucca dough, foods highly appreciated by the workers and the community.
