Gloria Machado León 5 septiembre, 2014

As part of the effort to declare the Sauto theater historic cultural complex,   a selection process and restoration of objects is developed in the institution for several years, which make up exhibitions that visitors will appreciate during their tours around the building, once it is reopened .

In the theater there are attractive pieces of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries that will reaffirm the property, a National Monument since 1978, as one of the most spectacular theaters in the country, said Leonel Pérez Orozco, the Coliseum historian who heads the trilogy of classic Cuban theaters.

«Our goal is that the theater serves as a reference to Cuban and foreign visitors and hope to become one of the biggest attractions in Matanzas city.

«To this end we have set ourselves the task of grouping objects that integrate the halls of this museumtheater. We will have two dressing rooms: one dedicated to an atelier where appear sewing machines, irons, crinolines, sewing and scissors, and another for cosmetic makeup items. «

The pieces will be placed in correspondence with its utility, as also argued conservative building, located in La Vigia Square. The researcher also referred to the collection of sewing machines, which, he explained, covering the period from the late nineteenth century to the early twentieth century 40.

«We have 7 or 8 machines, not only Singer, the last who entered the theater in the 30s, so perhaps the best known, but also New Home, or Magdoms Wandish, which are in perfect condition.«

Typewriters, meanwhile, will be distributed in the different offices of theater as museum pieces.

«They’re about 14 or 15, framed between the nineteenth century until the mid-50s, for example there is an Oliver from the late nineteenth century and early twentieth Wander. Both pieces were donated to the theater at the bottom of Palacio de Junco  Museum for permanent display in the Sauto.

«There are 4 Underworl machines dating from the early twentieth century until the mid-40s in each can recognize the technical and constructive evolution of the element that has been in service almost until today

Phonographs dating back to the years between 1905 and 1928, TV 1950 and dated radios between 30 and 50 also provide an overview of its development. Fountain pens and phones, also swell the list of objects that the public notice in operation.

«In the theater will be exposed a movie theater, because at some point it worked as such. We rescued an excellent collection of phonographs still work. There are also several types of phones, from the tower until the year 1901 56, with the last to be put into service at that time.

«We have four televisions, of which only 54 year Almiral works perfectly because the other parts are impossible to find. There will be radios, almost all in excellent condition, fountain pens that will be on the offices for visitors to see how they are used.

«You are in our power about a thousand vinyl records. The goal is that people have such old records donate them to the theater, we digitize, we deliver and we were copying the disc.

«The music collection ranges from the early twentieth century until the 80s when he stopped recording in that format and artists of national and international stature. These discs will be part of the Documentation Center will work here. «

Two of the pieces of unmatched value that holds the theater are a printing Shander Princer 1911, in perfect condition and a power plant.

«The press is an interesting subject that we rescued from the ruins of an old building across the street from theater. It is fully restored, this will allow us to ensure at least 50 percent of the impressions of newsletters, invitations and promotional material we need. «

At present, the conservation team restored a harmonium, musical instrument of the nineteenth century whose operation is very complex.

«It’s kind of an organ or a giant Philharmonic since the nineteenth century was brought to the Cathedral of Matanzas. With the reconstruction of this property was determined that the instrument was very run down and was no longer useful.

«After months of study and work tested the first chords and know that it works fine. We had to spend a lot of time because it is a very complex instrument, along with a technique of the nineteenth century, completely lost. «

With the reopening of the Hall of Fame spectators can meet the most renowned artists who have taken the stage of Sauto. So too will be exposed the names of Cuban and foreign personalities who have visited the theater.

In the attic, meanwhile, are the original building blocks found during restoration, while in the niches of the theater the audience can see the metal coffin Ambrosio de la Concepción Sauto, executor of the construction of the building, where they will rest their remains along with those of his wife.

For Orozco the most important is to give each of these collections their social function. «Other objects which have been reconstructed furniture, documents.

«We tried that in addition to know the characteristics of these objects, visitors see them running longer exposed in the theater and know that they can still provide excellent services.

«Not only show the cool factor, but also that the person can realize the evolution suffered this tool work or office through information or entertainment, over time

The actions taken today in the Sauto are useful not only to decorate its areas, but will also become this National Monument in a valued cultural,  historical complex, which is unique in the country.
